The larger religious buildings were generally constructed of limestone, imported at first from Tournai but later replaced by Brabant stone. Today the church, decorated in a baroque style, still houses a very rich collection of 17th century paintings of Flemish masters, including Rubens. The tower was rebuilt after 1679.
