This building was originally designed for Louis-Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, Comte d'Evreux, and since 1849 it has been occupied by the presidents of France. It has been modified, by Étienne-Louis Boullée in 1773 and by Joseph-Eugène Lacroix in 1853-1867.
