This seated male is an example of the Comala phase, also referred to as "Colima Polished Red," a ceramic style identifiable by its iconic monochrome burnished red color. Figures in this style usually have a highly polished surface, long thin noses, and thick short necks. This figure wears a necklace of what appears to be leaf-shaped pendants. His hat is similar to a style called the conical hat which some scholars argue is associated with the wind god. More detailed depictions of this style of hat show they were woven from wicker and had painted designs.
