Marble Governing Policies
About MARBLE—MARBLE (Museums, Archives, Rare Books, and Libraries Exploration) is a digital collections platform that brings together materials from the Hesburgh Libraries, the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, and cultural heritage collections at the University of Notre Dame. In line with the University’s mission, MARBLE supports collaboration, teaching, research, and data curation.
Managed by the Hesburgh Libraries, MARBLE is part of the University’s discovery infrastructure. It provides access to Notre Dame’s cultural, historical, and artistic collections while advancing the preservation and sharing of cultural heritage.
In keeping with University and Library priorities, MARBLE emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion. Curatorial practices highlight historical context, underrepresented voices, and reparative description. MARBLE is committed to global discovery and open access.
Supported Content
MARBLE features select materials from the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, Rare Books & Special Collections, and the University Archives. While not comprehensive, these collections represent the breadth and depth of Notre Dame’s distinctive cultural holdings.
Content Review
Digitized materials represent only a fraction of the University’s collections. Cross-institutional teams add new content regularly, with a development roadmap designed to expand features and enhance collaboration across campus partners.
Platform Development
This site was collaboratively developed by the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art and Hesburgh Libraries thanks to a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. To learn more about the development process, view the documentation.
