An important moment in the history of Notre Dame occurred on November 9, 1980, when the Snite Museum of Art, a gift of the Fred B. Snite family, opened with a 52,000 square foot addition to the twenty-seven year old, 16,000 square foot O'Shaughnessy Hall Art Gallery on the University campus. To celebrate the occasion, May E.
