Landscape at Limay is an example of Corot's mature style. Here, Corot created an idyllic rural scene that captures a moment of everyday life in the French countryside. The work is painted in a looser, more fluid and spontaneous style than his early, carefully constructed landscapes influenced by the classicism of Nicolas Poussin. It reveals Corot’s concern with the momentary effects of nature: the play of light and the changing atmosphere in an idealized and romanticized natural setting. from Snite Museum of Art, Selected Works: Snite Museum of Art (Notre Dame, 2005)
