New Mexico #14

Date

1965

Creator

Fritz Scholder
Raclin Murphy Museum of Art

The abstracted desert landscape from his Fritz Scholder New Mexico Series was executed while living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and teaching at the Institute of American Indian Art. The desert, mountains, and sky are reduced to loosely rendered layers of colors. The artwork illustrates the artistic influences of his instructor, Wayne Thiebald, and another famous painter Scholder came to know while living in New Mexico–Georgia O’Keeffe.
