Saint Anne’s Church, Bruges: Distant context view of the facade and spire
Date
Circa 1910
Location
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
The present three-aisled church, consecrated in 1624, took the place of a former Gothic church razed to the ground in 1581 (during a Calvinist period). The church's interior is mostly notable for its Baroque architecture including a marble rood screen. The carved wooden choir and confessional stalls (about 1630-1640) are by Jan and Jacob Schockaert Schapelinck. The Flemish poet-priest Guido Gezelle was baptized here in 1830.
