In the Snite Museum panel, the space surrounding the figure is darkened, masking the details of the room and the hangings on the walls, so that all attention is focused on the activity of the figure during the evening hours. This spotlighting effect, sometimes even brighter in scenes using different lighting equipment, centers the interest on people and their lives. from Weisberg, Breaking the Mold: The Legacy of the Noah L. and Muriel S.
