Notre Dame de la Chapelle: Overall context view down street, from the east, towards the apse
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
Notre-Dame de la Chapelle was begun ca. 1190, but rebuilt in Brabantine Gothic. The nave dates from 1421-1483. Notre-Dame de la Chapelle is the burial (1569) site of Pieter Brueghel the Elder and his wife; their memorial is in one of the chapels. In 1699, the west tower was capped by the current Baroque slate steeple, designed by Belgian architect Antoine Pastorana.
