Old Stables, Heidelberg: Raking view of the river front facade and towers

The Marstall (Stables), a group of former stables and an arsenal on the left bank of the Neckar, mostly dating from the 16th century, is now used by the university (as a cafeteria). Probably built under the Elector Ludwig V in 1510, the long river front facade has two guard towers at each end. The name also applies to a Renaissance building, royal stables built by Count Palatine Johann Casimir on the south side of the court ca. 1590.
