Hôtel Merghelynck: Raking view of facade
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
View taken before damage in World War I (May, 1915).
Merghelynck Museum, housed in the 1774 town house of the Empress Maria Theresa's treasurer, Frans Merghelynck. Arthur Merghelynck, a descendant, opened his private museum in 1894, dedicated to the lifestyle of the nobility in the 18th century. Part of the splendid Louis XV and Louis XVI interior survived the First World War and was rehoused in the restored house (1934). The exterior is a transitional style between Rococo and Neoclassic.
