The Snite drawing of the goddess Pallas (Athena) was produced in anticipation of a commission to decorate the Hôtel de Soubise, a mansion in Paris belonging to the Rohan family that became the paragon of the rococo style. The design was never executed, however, as the project ultimately went to another artist. from Snay, The Epic and the Intimate: French Drawings from the John D. Reilly Collection (Notre Dame, 2011)
