Loggia del Consiglio, Verona: Overall view of facade and loggia from the Piazza dei Signori
Date
Circa 1910
Location
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
The Loggia del Consiglio, begun in 1476 on the Piazza dei Signori by masons from Lombardy, is a more complete example of Renaissance architecture. (At the time Verona was under the rule of Maximilian I). Several buildings have been attributed to Giocondo, although there is no documentation to support this: most notably the Loggia del Consiglio (1493), Verona. The surviving evidence implies that Giocondo acted more as a technical adviser rather than as an architect concerned with design. Grove lists both dates in different articles.
