Date

Circa 1910

Creator

Part of: Architectural Lantern Slides of Italy
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries

The building is known for its two interior courtyards with double corridors.

A large and unusually rich monastery with ties to the Catanian nobility. This monastery was the second largest in Europe after Mafra in Portugal with an extensive library. The monastery stands next to the unfinished Basilica of San Nicola l'Arena (1687). It is now the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy for the University of Catania.
