Half-Timbered Houses, Caen: Raking view of half-timbered houses
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
Some handsome mansions were built at the time of the Renaissance, including the Hôtel d'Escoville (1538), built for Nicolas Le Valois, and also a large number of high-quality half-timbered houses. Many of these still exist, particularly in Rue du Vaugeux, even after the bombings of WWII.
