Jerusalem Church, Bruges: Ornate interior of the upper chapel with donors portrayed in the stained glass
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
This does not match images of the interior, which is plain brick.
Built by wealthy merchants, the Genoese-Bruges Adorno family. Intended to be a replica of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem (with a replica of Christ's Tomb in the crypt underneath the choir). Inside the chapel are the mausoleums of the builder, Anselmus Adornes (died 1483), and his wife. The mausoleum was created by the master mason Cornelis Thieleman. There are also 6 stained glass portraits of other family members (dated 1482 and 1560). The church is still privately owned by descendants of the family. The exterior of the chapel is dominated by an octagonal tower.
